Previously reserved only for the highest echelon of haute horlogerie, Oris repaved the landscape in 2014 by offering a hand-wound timepiece powered by its own in-house developed calibre, which runs an impressive 10-day power reserve, at a fraction of the prices of similar models from other watchmakers yet with a comparable Swiss Made quality in Oris Artelier Calibre 110, capturing the essence of “real watch for real people” – a tradition Oris abides by.
This year, we witness the birth of Oris Artelier Calibre 113, the latest hand-wound model in the Oris Artelier line of sassy dress watches. Building upon the overwhelming successes experienced by Calibre 110 and subsequently Calibre 111 and Calibre 112, Oris Artelier Calibre 113 shares the same base architecture but features a useful complication—business calendar—not found in previous models. The multi-piece stainless steel case is also pleasantly sized at 43mm.
10-day power reserve
The speciality of Oris Artelier Calibre 113 is indisputably the patented non-linear power reserve indicator. So called because the power reserve indicator is presented as a retrograde that is thoughtfully conceived. Further proof lies in the spacing that separates the days of remaining stored energy. When it is fully wound or near full power, the spacing is tight. But as the stored energy depletes, the spacing begins to distance, urging the wearer to turn the crown in order to recharge the power reserve.
As dress watches are frequently worn in formal occasions, Oris Artelier Calibre 113 is made with businesspeople in mind with the incorporation of a business calendar that is easily legible and conveniently placed on the dial. The date is told by an aperture at nine o’clock. Followed by the day of the week by a small window at 12 o’clock below the Oris logo. Finally a red-tipped hand circles around the dial to point out the month and the week of the year.
For ease of operation and aesthetic reason, Oris has streamlined the various functions of the watch to be managed with just the crown. Furthermore, both hour and minute hands are filled with Super-LumiNova—a trait that is uncommon in the realm of dress watches—so the time is always visible even in the dead of night.
The watch is sandwiched by two pieces of sapphire crystals, protecting both the dial and the exhibition caseback that brings to light the alluring inner work of the single-barrel Calibre 113 that is fully developed in-house and beats at 3Hz, or 21,600vph.
The watch is water resistant to 50m and available in several variants.
