What to look out for at Vacheron Constantin's Elegance in Motion exhibition
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Vacheron Constantin's Overseas collection, which we've written about several times in the past. To continue to demonstrate the evolution of the watch collection to its current form today, the brand is presenting an exhibition in Singapore, titled "Elegance in Motion", which looks at how the predecessor of the watch series, the Jorg Hysek-designed reference 222, became the new Overseas.
The 18-piece collection, which is going around the world, takes a look at the various aesthetic and horological developments that brand has made over the years. These pieces come from the maison's own private museum collection, which has over 1,300 pieces within its archives. They showcase numerous innovations over the decades, starting with the creation of compact travelling clocks in the early 20th century, featuring luminescent-coated dials for legibility.
Other innovations include the incorporation of water resistance and a soft iron ring to shield it against magnetism. In 1933, the brand then developed a screw down case and bezel that was the predecessor to the reference 222, which was its first sporty elegant timepiece. This would then be re-interpreted into the Overseas in 1996, and now redeveloped by artistic director Christian Selmoni into the latest series.
The exhibition runs from 24 August to 4 September 2016 at the brand's ION Orchard boutique in Singapore. Don't miss out, especially if you're a vintage lover on some of these rarely seen pieces. If however you're not in Singapore, here's the schedule of where the exhibition will be.
