A Look at Spring Summer 2012 Menswear Ad Campaigns

"One day you're in and the next day you're out", purrs Heidi Klum in reference to fashion, but she could be saying the same for the glossy ad campaigns produced by the luxury houses every season. The moment the season turns, every fashion critic pounces on the brands' latest creative visuals and takes note of every detail in and behind the scenes. The most savvy can be even reference visuals to seasons past or cattily pick out the copycats  from the truly inspired. Even if you just enjoy pouring over pretty pictures, it's interesting to see how some of the labels are presenting Spring Summer 2012 in the glossies this year. Unsurprisingly, Dolce & Gabbana continues with the ensemble cast and this season the focus is on an Italian family. The menswear campaign feature  gorgeous sepia-toned portraits with actors Giuseppe Fiorello, Francesco Scianna, Filippo Nigro, Thomas Trabacchi, Primo Reggiani and Chiara Francini. Just as familiar is Burberry Prorsum fronted by Burberry favourites Eddie Redmayne and Cara Delevingne in signature trench coats emanating youthful bravado, while Givenchy ups the star power with supermodel Gisele Bundchen taking the attention away from every male model next to her in a dark and moody series of images. Going solo are Bottega Veneta and Gucci, both featuring fresh new faces Alex Cunha and Greg Nawrat respectively. Cunha is dressed in knits and and dyed denim for Bottega Veneta while Nawrat gets the dapper touch for Gucci. Then there are the plain intriguing. Jil Sander sets its campaign in an old, possibly haunted, house as models pose behind panes of stained and broken glass with faces of near-surprise. Yves Saint Laurent's stark black-and-white portrait features model Baptiste Radufe with severely slicked back hair, reflecting this season's sleek looks while model Werner Schreyer is caught mid-shot, distracted by something afar, in the great outdoors of Louis Vuitton. And as we mentioned in a previous post, Prada decides to forego an unknown and features pouty-lipped actor Michael Pitt of Boardwalk Empire fame in a series of awkwardly posed photographs dressed in this season's delightful prints.
