17 Days Till Christmas - Resort Wear
Ahh, resort. That two-syllable word that has the capacity to bring a thrill to our loins as we plan sophisticated evenings with cigars and fine whisky among friends at the best restaurants, and casual beach parties with a wood-fire barbeque all while enjoying the pamperings of a seven-star resort on some atoll in the Maldives. Or perhaps Fiji. Or Bora Bora.
Well you'll need to be decked out appropriately and we've got the looks for you. Burberry's resort collection has just popped into our inboxes, and Christopher Bailey is full of good ideas on how to make your next resort holiday (and the work months after that) the most dapper you've ever been. For the plane, or the evening, a classic navy blue suit offset with olive green on the tie. Two colours that pop up frequently this season, and remain perennial. Wet weather? Go for louche and laidback cool with a deliberately crumpled rain jacket.
The same functional and practical designs in military wear seem to return in resortwear. Bombers in parachute material, good for warding off the cold, double up as smart outerwear and the military greatcoat in wool returns. My personal favourite is the brown checked shirt that suits all seasons; it's lively enough for spring, and somber enough for winter.
But resort calls for much more casual clothing as well; patterned shirts and shorts are in abundance.
