The Ultimate Hasselblad Upgrade to Your Smartphone

The Ultimate Hasselblad Upgrade to Your Smartphone

We'll be deadly honest here. We haven't really given much thought to Motorola's smart phones pretty much since smart phones appeared and the Razr went out of style. That was probably the peak of its mobile success – everyone wanted the Razr.

That's changed in recent months, but as of today, Motorola's once again on the covet list. Its latest product is the Moto Z series, that's based on the Project Ara concept which is itself based on the Phonebloks idea, with modular smartphones as a basis for development. Motorola isn't the only one to do it either. LG has introduced something similar, and though both companies still do not offer hardware upgrades, they come with a slide and fit module system where one can plug in various add-on attachments giving it a hardware boost.

In this, Motorola's partners are definitely way cooler. Today, it announced the Hasselblad True Zoom, that adds 10X optical zoom and RAW photography to your Moto Z. The specs of this US$299 add-on are pretty amazing as well: a 12MP 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, a 25-250mm equivalent lens, an f/3.5-6.5 aperture, an ISO range of 100 to 3200, 1080p video recording, and 2 built-in microphones. For any photo geek or aficionado, or Hasselblad lover who doesn't have the card limit to fork out for a full-blooded Hasselblad, this is as close to heaven as you get.

But not only that, the Moto Z also has other partner add-ons, from pico projectors to sound systems. Check them out.
