60 Seconds with A-Listers – Meng Han

Meng Han
Age: 32
Occupation: Director, Media Production

He founded Bandit Studios, a video production company that has produced some incredible work both commercially and artistically, from McDonald’s to Browhaus. But recently blessed with fatherhood, Meng (as he’s known to his friends) is also exploring new challenges in life, such as the A-Listers.

AM: What’s important to you at this juncture of your life.

MH: Obviously my family is most important to me and I am thankful to be where I am now. Some people do not believe in work/life balance and some think it does not exist. I want to build a sustainable business yet make sure I am happy both at work and at home. It’s not easy but it’s not impossible. My business partner is female and she keeps me sane and grounded. Even though we have different personalities, we complement each other and call the shots together. I won’t have it any other way.

AM: What do you think your career choice says about you?

MH: That I’m not academic? I think I like to have things under control. To have a say in what I do. A right decision now will affect the outcome. The effects of a decision now and the kind of the impact that it has at the end.

AM: Are there any directors that you admire?

MH: Directors that I admire? Stanley Kubrick would be one. I’m sure all of you would know. When Full Metal Jacket came out, we were still little boys, but I think I’ve seen the movie six times. And each time, I find something new about it. I just saw it two weeks ago, on my laptop – which is an injustice to the film.

AM: What were you like as a child?

MH: I was brat. I was so spoilt by my parents. I don’t know how they put up with me, honestly. I have home videos of me when I was 9 and when I watched it I said to myself, “My son better not be like this”.

AM: If you could pick up any skill, what would it be, and why?

MH: I would love to be able to run a marathon. Is that even a skill?
