Inspired by Burberry’s heritage trench coat with its iconic colours and checks, the new Mr Burberry fragrance for men is a throwback to the ways of the old British perfumeries with the base of earthy vetiver and smokey guaiac wood. Interestingly there is an unexpected splash of grapefruit right at the top.
But the fragrances of today live and die by the marketing sword and we must admit that Mr Burberry is right up there with the very best. Gentlemen can monogram their initials on the beautiful bottle through the Burberry website and at selected stores. The British luxury brand is also appealing to the millenials by using the social media channel Snapchat, yes, that medium for sexting fiends and people with short attention spans. There is a dedicated channel for users to access a wealth of content, including tailoring and grooming tips, as well as behind-the-scenes campaign content.
And what about the Mr Burberry campaign film with the haunting soundtrack by Mercury Music prize winner Benjamin Clementine? “For the film I wanted to convey the idea of two people who are passionately in love. It’s that moment in a relationship where all you are thinking about is each other, and all you want is to be with each other,” film director Steve McQueen said.
